I need help classing a car for this year's event.

Alright, I am considering switching over to Team USA this year and bringing my Mustang.

It is not listed in the rule section so I'd like clarification on the car.

The car is a 2008 Ford Mustang with the Shelby GT package on it. This is NOT a GT500. The car is stock form classes in SCCA F-Stock. It came with the naturally aspirated 4.6, 3 valve engine in it.

The car is completely stock now except for the addition of a supercharger and I added the GT500 factory Ford front brakes to the car.

I think the Supercharger is 20 points, the brakes will be 2 points. Is it every 15 points the car moves up one class?

So where will it fit?

Thank you!

Where your car starts on the list, if you say it's in "F". So 21 mod points puts you in "E", 41 mod points puts you up to "D" etc.. so EVERY 20pts raises you up a class. Hope that helps.

I'd class it as a Mustang GT w/ blower and brakes. Also, you've gotta take any tuning points as well if the computer has been reflashed...and any points if you've upgraded the fuel injectors/rails/whatever.

And tires if you're running anything with a treadwear of less than 140 to get it to hook up... You also need to take points for an intake system if you're not running through the stock airbox.

There are points for exhaust modifications too if you aren't running a stock exhaust system.

I would think that you'd class it as a regular Mustang GT and then list the Shelby add-ons as mods. Isn't the Shelby GT basically just an intake, exhaust, springs, and a body kit?

I'm sure Team USA would appreciate the contribution

David,
you start at D+7 then add the bolt ons for the Shelby kit as add ons.
Then add your super charger, tuner, ect.
If the Shelby kit has a modded air intake, don't count that twice if you changed from that with the inlet for the super charger. No double penalty. If the Shelby kit had upgraded rotors, then you changed them out for different ones, only take the points once.
I don't know all you'e done, but just guessing you have about 35-40 mod points.
Depending on tires I would expect you to be in B
Every Twenty points moves you up one class.

OK, sorry I didn't check back sooner. Thanks for the input. I used Mach03's suggestions and went and classed the car from that. In the case of this event I am not one to debate anything cause I just love running it. It does seem unfair that the package on my car is a factory OEM package as it is done before the car is titled and I have to claim much of what's done but so be it.

I end up with 53 points on top of the D+7, which gives me 60 points and puts me at the very bottom of A Class if I chose to bring the Shelby.

I will give it some thought and decide what I am going to bring. The thought of having other people driving the Bad Bish for the event isn't appealing to me anymore and I won't do it justice on the drag strip........although one pass would mean I could park it cause I'd be thrown out after that! haha

See you guys there. I'll be in an A or Top Gun.

We have a general +3 tolerance on the points. at 60pts on the dot, will put you at the very bottom of Class A Dave, so we could make that just as easily HIGH CLASS B as well. So we will take all that into consideration, so you may be in B Dave when we grid you.

Is your Mustang basically a GT500 now, or are there performance bits that the GT500 has that you don't? I figure it would make sense that, if your car is basically the same as a GT500 now, then run A (the GT500 class). If it still falls short, then drop to B, which is where the SVT Cobra would run.

Kevin, I counted every single part on the car, even the stuff that comes factory installed, before titled, which are considered standard to the car. (Which is why this car whoops but in SCCA) Claiming everything, even parts I know nobody would find (cause I'm an honest dude) put me right at 60 points. Class B with this car, I'll bring it. Class A I'm not sure which way I'll roll. I've never autocrossed a RWD, ever, never road raced one either, so it should be a cone hammer! hahaha

No this is not a GT500 equivalent. The GT500 is a 5.4 liter, 32 valve engine. This is a standard, bone stock 4.6, 3 valve engine with just a standard Whipple supercharger HO kit put on it. The Whipple HO kit includes: Supercharger, heat exchanger, injectors, fuel pump and a standard reflash that you send your computer in to have programmed.

I also put GT500 front brakes on it, ported the stock exhaust manifolds, removed the cats.

Everything else on the car is stock how I bought it but I also claimed the springs/shocks and sway bars that came on it.

All of this took me right to the 60 points.
