my question is rather simple. Do we need a full blown cage if 10.99 or quicker? I know we started talking about this a while ago but nothing was really put out there after it was brought up. based on the 2008 NHRA rules I am lost really. My understanding of it is all I need is a roll bar. Someone care to help me out a little in the understanding of this........
Mandatory in all cars running quicker than 10.99 seconds or faster
than 135 mph, or per Class Requirements. Cars with unaltered
firewall, floor, and body (from firewall rearward, wheeltubs
permitted) running between 10.00 and 10.99, roll bar permitted in
place of roll cage, or per Class Requirements.
I know for a fact a cage is not going into my car period. I am trying to get this decided so I can start getting everything put together. my list is relatively easy, cage or bar, driveshaft loop, kill switch on back of car, helmet, and some clothes..............that should be enough for me!!!

If you plan on running 10.99-10.0, and don't want to stand on the binders at the big end, you need a bar...or you'll only be allowed 1 pass.

thanks for the reply. I emailed the NHRA rulz board the same question and I will post the answer from them when I get it.
faster the big question is I know tracks can put more rulz ontop of what is already there......Are the cool with people running bars only.
What I am looking at getting is a 8-point roll bar similar to this

I had to deal with this kind of ruling when I built my '66 NOVA, simple and basic as stated in the NHRA lingo. If you did not cut out the firewall and floor pans and replace them with weight saving aluminum sheet panels, then a roll bar is permitted, even if you took out the original wheel housings and replaced them with tubs for wider tires. This is allowed because of the structural integrity of the OEM body in white with its integrated firewall, floorpan, A & B pillars, Roof panel and rocker panel areas is deemed sufficient in a crash when supplemented with a roll bar.
A lot of 10.90 and faster NHRA & IHRA cars will cut away the floor, firewall, rocker panels, replacing them with light weight units and destroy all structural integrity of the body, so a 12 point cage is then mandatory.
Bottom line: stock body = roll bar chopped up body = roll cage

I wish that was the case.....from the first U-joint it is still a manditory upgrade. That is the reason Buschur made one and is selling it! He wants something like 275 for it..........I don't think I will be paying that much for a piece of extra weight metal!!!
I am just trying to make sure that I get as many passes in as possible vice getting booting after 1 or 2!!! I have been booted enough in the past so I am going to fix myself for being the bad guy:duh:
